Cini for First Selectman, East Lyme, CT

Issues

As a lifelong resident of East Lyme, an experienced public servant, and a business owner in East Lyme, Matt has the broad depth of experience to understand and tackle the issues important to East Lyme's continued growth as a great place to live.

These are a few of the items Cini wishes to talk about during his campaign. If you would like to discuss any of these, or even better hold a neighborhood BBQ or Dinner that Matt will attend, please contact us.

Quality of Life

Cini believes there is no greater judge of an administration's success or failure than whether or not the Quality of Life has increased during its tenure.

Cini will set a goal of putting East Lyme in the Top 10 of small towns in Connecticut for quality of life by 2010. Cini's Top 10 by 2010 goal will require greater attention by the town's government to standard items such as education, town services, public safety and taxes, but will also require a new found attention to small business development, town marketing, and improved leisure activities for its residents.

Affordability and Balance

No town can be successful without a true balance of its population. Retirees, Families, and young professionals should all be able to find a place in East Lyme. Only through striving for balance in our population will we achieve the mix that is necessary to have a vibrant and active community.

Leadership and Vision

Cini has a strong vision for East Lyme's future and is a proven leader. Matt has shown he not only listens but also responds to input from the town's residents. Cini believes the "my way or the highway" attitude that has existed in town government needs to end. True leadership is about empowering the right people to do the work and then guiding, but not interfering, in that work.

Niantic Main Street and the Niantic Waterfront

Cini has embraced the goals of Niantic Main Street since the group's inception and will give them the support they have long needed to move forward. Supporting the growth a vibrant downtown helps the town as a whole, and Cini will make revitalization of downtown Niantic and the management of our newly opened up waterfront a top priority.

Taxes

Cini does not believe that simply accepting an approximate one mill increase every year in taxes is acceptable. Cini will actively work throughout the entire year to find ways to reduce or stop tax increases in the future. It can be done, but hard choices will need to be made.
